Community and labour allies are holding a solidarity rally with striking Canadian Hearing Society (CHS) workers, represented by CUPE local 2073, who have now been on strike for nearly two months.

WHEN: 12 pm – 1 pm, May Day (Monday, May 1, 2017)

WHERE: MPP Yasir Naqvi’s office, 109 Catherine St, Ottawa. Between O’Connor and Metcalfe.

WHY: The groups are demanding that the provincial government tell CHS management to negotiate a fair contract, given the province provides more than $20 million in annual funding to the organization. CHS workers have not received a wage increase in four years. In that same period of time, the President and CEO of CHS received a 75% pay hike, while cutting 28% of front line staff and pushing concessions, including dramatic gutting of the workers’ sick leave plan. 90% of the strikers are women and 40% of the membership come from the deaf and hard of hearing community themselves.

ORGANIZED BY: Ottawa CUPE District CouncilFight for $15 & Fairness Ottawa, and Solidarity Ottawa.
