Restore Door-to-Door & Expand Postal Services
Prime Minister Trudeau campaigned on the promise that a Liberal government would “stop Stephen Harper’s plan to end door-to-door mail delivery in Canada”. This hasn’t happened. In fact, according to media reports the Liberal government may be trying to back out of restoring home mail delivery.
While the Parliamentary committee tasked with reviewing Canada Post did recommend reinstating door-to-door mail delivery for communities whose service was cut after August, 2015, the committee did not recommend moving forward with postal banking. The government committed to responding to these recommendations in April, 2017. Now the government says that will happen by the end of 2017, raising serious questions about whether it will happen at all.
Now is the time to call on the Trudeau government to fully restore door-to-door mail delivery and expand postal services.
Tell Ottawa-area Liberal MPs to:
- Stop the cuts to home mail delivery
- Restore door-to-door postal service everywhere it has been cut
- Expand the public postal service by implementing postal banking

As has been reported by iPolitics: “Before he was elected prime minister, Justin Trudeau pledged to restore door-to-door delivery to those who were losing it. “On Canada Post, we promise to restore home delivery,” Trudeau said during a campaign stop in Montreal in September. Since being elected, however, Trudeau has avoided repeating that promise, pointing instead to the party’s campaign platform, which is less specific… “[Minister] Foote said residents will continue to have to pick up their mail from the community boxes while the government conducts a “comprehensive review” of Canada Post.”
